I think Small Style Icon is by far one of my favourite posts, I love getting to know all the cute kids a little bit more. And I always learn so much from their stylish mama’s. This week’s Small Style Icon is the adorable Doe eyed Marlowe from ohdeardrea. Marlowe already has a fantastic boho, hippie style and she’s only One. Her mom, Drea is the hilarious, crafty, vegan wonder behind ohdeardrea. This beautiful duo has such a refreshing and natural take on life, and style, I knew they would be the perfect pair to give us a few tips on how to dress like a Small Style Icon {and boy was I right!}…

What are your favourite stores or brands you and Marlowe like to shop at?
Our whole goal in outfit purchasing is being as eco-friendly as possible. Most of Marlowe’s outfits are either second hand or thrifted. She’s got a closet full of name-brand baby items and one of a kind adorable vintage dresses, by thrifting. It saves money and it’s less work on the environment— without as much demand, there is less to supply. The items that are not second hand are preferably either: handmade, organic, or extremely high quality brands– these items last longer through baby-wear and can be kept for many many years. Clothes that are well made last longer and can be passed on to other kiddos (and/or hopefully future little brothers or sisters). We also enjoy when friends and family bring us items from other countries. They are almost always made well… and always one of a kind
Brands we love:
- Barley & Birch— always organic, water based inks, and extremely eco-friendly.
- Hanna Anderson— we love all Swedish clothing. Most Swedish clothes are designed and made in Sweden and made incredibly well out of extremely durable material— not to mention bright, and adorable!
- KappAhl: another bright and fun Swedish brand.
- Starbugaloo: The cutest handmade dresses and smocks. Extremely well made, out of re-purposed material. Many of the dresses are either reversible and great for the hot Florida heat– or for layering for the winter months.
- Up a Tree Cup a Tea: Cutest baby headbands and bows! Also made from re-purposed material.
- Also, for layering basics or pj’s we find a lot of pretty durable and/or reversible items from Baby Gap.
Do you have any tips for putting a little outfit together for other Mom’s who are wanting to dress their little one like a style icon?
Stick with Basics. Babies don’t have to look like babies with cutesy little prints all the time. Dress them how you would dress yourself, except maybe with more consideration to the comfort and snuggly level. Keep it simple, sometimes less is more, a ridiculous oversized bow the size of your babies head just looks like…. well a ridiculous bow. People will see your baby and how cute they are without the excessive flare.
Does Marlowe’s style mirror your own?
Marlowe’s little style is very much like my own… except maybe with more dresses, leggings, and brighter colors. I wish I could wear half the rompers she owns without looking ridiculous. Also, Marlowe is almost always in stripes, solids, or florals, just like me. And a tee or a tank, tucked into a skirt.

What are your FAV 3 pieces in Marlowe’s closet that get the most wear/use?
Our three favorite pieces: (in the Florida summer and fall heat) a light fabric dress, a basic tee (preferbly Barley and Birch’s Garlic tee, cause who doesn’t love garlic?) and a good knit sweater to carry everywhere for the chilly AC. (in the Florida winter) Take out the dress and add a good pair of stripped leggings.
Thank you so much Andrea and Marlowe! Such fantastic tips and Marlowe; what a doll!
xoxo

That embroidered Equadorian dress in the first set of pictures is possibly the CUTEST baby clothing I've ever seen in my life. I'd wear that. I'm jealous.
